The UK is set for a "wet and windy" end to meteorological summer as low pressure dominates over the next week.

It comes after the UK is on track to have had the warmest summer on record, according to Met Office data, with four official heatwaves in one season.

Now summer is coming to an end, this next week will be wet and windy for most parts of the UK, along with a chance of hail in some areas and general "unsettled" conditions.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “A westerly regime is now in charge of the UK’s weather and will help fuel periods of wet and windy weather over the next few days, with showers and some longer spells of rain likely for much of the UK on Thursday and Friday.
