COLUMBIA, Ill. (First Alert 4) - Multiple agencies are responding to a police standoff with a barricaded subject in Columbia, Illinois.

On Wednesday at around 7:10 a.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department sent an alert through their app about a standoff taking place in the 1800 block of Meadows Court in Columbia, Illinois.

The sheriff’s office said that deputies responded to the location for a report of a stolen gun at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies found a man in the home’s basement, who then refused to comply, barricaded himself inside and made threats towards the law enforcement.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Meadow Court until further notice.

Police say negotiations are ongoing, but there is no threat to the public.
