HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On this date in 1863, West Virginia saw the Battle of White Sulphur Springs.
It was a two-day battle in the Civil War where Confederate forces defeated Union forces led by General William Averell.
Somewhere around 600 soldiers died in the battle.
They even specifically thanked a Dr. Beard from Greenbrier County for helping so many of the wounded.
