Transportation Department Takes Over Management of Union Station

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced it is assuming management of Union Station, a key transportation hub in Washington, D.C., from Amtrak. The decision was announced by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy ahead of a joint event with Amtrak President Roger Harris to launch the new NextGen Acela high-speed rail service.

In a statement, Secretary Duffy said the station had “fallen into disrepair” and should instead be a “point of pride” for the city. “By reclaiming station management, we will help make this city safe and beautiful at a fraction of the cost,” Duffy said.
