Seven of the 25 Claire’s stores in New Jersey will be closing, according to newly released court filings , along with one that was previously announced for closure.

The filing outlines 234 locations that will close after private equity firm Ames Watson said it would purchase the struggling chain and keep upwards of 950 stores open. A timeline for the closures is not listed in the court documents.

Claire’s said in bankruptcy filings that it was grappling with longstanding debt and the fallout of President Donald Trump’s tariffs , given that it sourced many of its supplies from China.

Founded in 1961 in Chicago, Claire's specializes in selling necklaces, bracelets, and various accessories, including headphones and soft toys.
