DETROIT, MI -- A man has been charged after two people were fatally stabbed at a pool party in Detroit.

Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, of Detroit faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a home in the 18500 block of Fleming Street just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 9 where a stabbing occurred after an argument over a woman.

Martisha Payne, 25, of Detroit, and Jakirea Williams, 31, of Chesterfield Township, both died. A 31-year-old man, of Pontiac, and a 40-year-old man of Detroit suffered non-fatal stab wounds.

“What started out as a friendly family and friends end of the summer gathering turned deadly with four people stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said
