A shooting took place Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, marking a tragic start to the school year. Governor Tim Walz described the incident as "horrific" and expressed his concern for the students and teachers affected.

Details about injuries remain unclear, but local authorities confirmed that the shooter has been contained and there is no ongoing threat to the community. The Minneapolis city government reported that emergency services were on the scene, and a mass casualty response was requested.

Governor Walz took to social media to share his thoughts. "I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence," he wrote.

The shooting occurred shortly after the school year began, with the first day of classes having been Monday. Annunciation School, which serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, had an all-school Mass scheduled for 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Photos from the first day of school showed students in green uniforms happily greeting each other.

In addition to local police, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were dispatched to the scene. The agency confirmed its response to reports of an active shooter at the church school.

This incident follows a series of violent events in Minneapolis, including a shooting outside a high school on Tuesday that left one person dead and six others injured. Hours later, two additional shootings resulted in two fatalities.
