SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - First-day fun filled the streets on Wednesday as kids prepared for a new school year.

Excitement was in the air at Rick Marcotte Central School in South Burlington as kids hopped out of cars with their backpacks on and headed into school for another year.

In the city’s Mayfair Park, a gaggle of kids posed for a mandatory first day of school picture.

The big day brought big emotions for siblings Liam and Vera Roth.

“I’m excited because I get to see my friends again,” Liam said. “I’m going into sixth grade next year... big school.”

“Happy but a little bit nervous? I don’t know!” Vera said.

Neighbor Cody Merrill had his eyes set on one thing: the playground.
