Jay Cutler, a former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback, has been sentenced to jail time following a DUI incident last year. The 42-year-old, known for his time with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors in Williamson County, Tennessee, dropped a weapons charge against him.
Cutler was sentenced to four days in jail, which he is scheduled to serve in late September. He was also ordered to pay a $350 fine and will be on supervised probation for one year. Additionally, his driver’s license has been suspended for a year, and he is required to attend a DUI safety course.
The DUI incident occurred in October 2024 in Franklin, Tennessee. According to police reports, Cutler was involved in a rear-end collision and exhibited signs of intoxication. Officers noted that he was slurring his words and refused to perform field sobriety tests at the scene. A blood sample was later taken at a local hospital. During the investigation, police discovered two firearms in his vehicle, one of which was loaded.
Initially, Cutler faced multiple charges, including DUI, failure to exercise due care, implied consent, and possession of a handgun while under the influence. However, the additional charges were dismissed as part of his plea agreement.
Cutler, who has a passion for hunting, recently faced backlash for sharing photos from a big-game hunting trip in South Africa. He posted an image on Instagram of himself with a Sable antelope he killed, captioning it, "Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty. Sable down." This post drew criticism from many social media users, with some expressing their disapproval of his actions.
During his 12-year NFL career, Cutler was recognized for his performance, making the Pro Bowl in 2008. He finished his career with a record of 74 wins and 79 losses as a starter, throwing for over 35,000 yards, 227 touchdowns, and 160 interceptions. Cutler's personal life also garnered attention, particularly his public divorce from reality TV star Kristin Cavallari in 2020 after a decade of marriage.
