LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A shooting caused panic at Central High School Tuesday night, and some juveniles were detained.

A little after 8 p.m., LMPD responded to reports of a shooting in the 1500 block of Congress Street. That's a little less than a mile from the school.

When police got to the scene, they found a man in his 20s shot in the knee. He was taken to UofL Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

A soccer game was being played at the school between DuPont Manual and Brown High Schools when the shooting happened.

Both principals sent an email to families saying LMPD immediately called for a shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution.

They said police evacuated the soccer field and worked to ensure all students, staff and spectators were safe.
