GLOCESTER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Glocester Police Department said that the public should be aware of scammers who are pretending to be from a bank in the area.
The department said the scammers claim they represent Citizens Bank and send victims a text message and call claiming there has been “fraudulent activity” detected on their accounts.
The scammer then tells the victim that someone will arrive at their home to take their debit card, and in one case a person did appear at a victim’s home.
The department said that banks will never send someone to a customer’s home to pick up a card and will not as for account information over the phone.
Victims who receive a call should hang up and call their bank.
Fraud incidents can be reported to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
