(Reuters) -U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley resisted the temptation to pick himself when he named Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns as wildcards to complete his 12-man team on Wednesday.
“It was a very difficult decision not to be on the team, but I’m very happy with the selection. It broke my heart not to play, but ultimately it’s my job to do what’s best for the team. This is the right choice,” Bradley told reporters.
The automatic qualifiers for the American team were world number one Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau.
European captain Luke Donald is scheduled to announce his six wildcard picks on September 1, ahead of the match at the Bethpage Black Course
