Truckee Meadows Water Authority is asking Reno-Sparks residents to cut back on outdoor watering after the recent thunderstorms raised turbidity levels in the Truckee River.
The utility closed some river intakes to keep dirt, debris and sediment out of its treatment system, reducing the amount of water available for delivery. Indoor use and drinking water quality are not affected.
“Closing our river intakes when the water is especially muddy is a standard measure to protect both our treatment process and water quality,” said Will Raymond, TMWA director of water operations and water quality. “We’re asking customers to help by cutting back on outdoor watering until the river clears and we can restore full production levels.”
