Days of rainy conditions have set back efforts to fix erosion under Highway 24 on its way to Woodland Park, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Erosion was evident Tuesday on the steep slope under the roadway near the Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs. Sediment had fallen away from previous patches put in about a month ago, while some debris was sliding into the local street below.

"(Crews) do know about it," said Amber Shipley, spokesperson with CDOT. "They have assessed it."

In July, the shoulder and right lane of Highway 24 saw closures as crews shored up the roadway from erosion from Chipeta Park to Manitou Springs. The mobile operation was expected to finish on July 31.
