LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) - A Mexican national with a prior conviction for drug trafficking has been sentenced to 13 months and one day for illegally reentering the United States.

Gutierrez-Chavarria will serve three years of parole after being released.

According to the DOJ, he was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison for drug trafficking prior to this new charge.

The DOJ says that on Dec. 13, 2024, Gutierrez-Chavarria was arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on three counts of selling/transporting and trafficking a controlled substance.

He was released on bail and was arrested by ICE on Feb. 20.

Gutierrez-Chavarria was previously deported in April 2022, and then again in September 2022. He was deported for the first time after spending 16 years in prison on a 2007 fel
