Detroit is throwing the world's biggest free jazz party for the 46th time this Labor Day weekend, with four stages at Hart Plaza, Cadillac Square and the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State's campus to celebrate sounds born in Detroit.

"We take great care to make sure that the music itself, the artists, the stage, the sound and everything, including health and safety, is carefully curated so that the experience is unlike what most people would associate with any festival," says Chris Collins, CEO and artistic director of the Detroit Jazz Festival for over 13 years.
