(NewsNation) — The Trump administration has directed 40 states, five U.S. territories and Washington, D.C. to remove all references to transgender people from their sex education programs or risk losing funding.
The Administration for Children and Families, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, sent a letter to all the states and territories demanding the changes be made to their Personal Responsibility Education Program, or PREP, in 60 days.
The program, created in 2010, is a federally funded initiative that is meant to combat teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
