Top officials at Mercy Hospital Washington say they expect the cost of health care locally to climb for years to come as a result of federal cuts to Medicaid.

In an interview with The Missourian last week, hospital President Marie Moore and Executive Director of Finance Mark Thorn said Mercy Washington has already begun preparing for changes that go into effect next year or later. Thorn said that across the eastern Missouri region, there will likely be an estimated reduction in Medicaid payments of $100 million to $120 million over the next seven years as a direct result of the legislative change.
