A young dad from Bolton who 'lived life to the full' tragically died after falling to his death from a notorious knife-edge in Snowdonia.

North West Wales assistant coroner Sarah Riley opened an inquest at Caernarfon in the case of Thomas Smith, of Mansfield Grove, Bolton , who was a plasterer.

The 36-year-old died on Crib Goch, a narrow ridge, during a climb of Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, at about 11:30am. The provisional cause of death was given as multiple injuries due to a fall from a height.

He had travelled to Snowdonia on the morning of August 16 to climb up Snowdon when emergency crews got a call of a man who had fallen, North Wales Live reports.
