BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - A student has been detained after a firearm was discovered on the campus of Battery Creek High School in Beaufort.

The 16-year-old male was detained by the school’s Resource Officer (SRO) for bringing the firearm onto school grounds.

He was then taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ).

At no time was a threat made to students or staff.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says weapons are strictly prohibited on all Beaufort County School District campuses aligning with South Carolina state law.
