BENTON, La. — A deadly school shooting Wednesday morning. A string of active shooter hoaxes in recent days on college campuses. All bring into focus the safeguards that are in place at the local level to keep students safe.

From active-shooter threats to medical emergencies, Bossier Parish Schools' officials say they've built multiple layers of protection to protect students -- measures that aim to prevent tragedies like the deadly school shooting in Minneapolis today.

For security reasons, Bossier school officials said all the district's safety measures could not be shown or talked about.
