The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the West Branch of the Walnut River, affecting the city of El Dorado. This warning is in effect from late Thursday morning into early Friday morning. The river is currently measured at 6ft stage with a 21ft flood stage.

Here’s the forecast:

The river is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday morning to a crest of 23.3 feet. It will then fall below flood stage early Thursday afternoon. Moderate flooding is forecasted.

Here’s what can happen:

-At 24.0 feet, north and south of the river gage bridge, flood waters cover parts of Main St near 6th Avenue and 12th Avenue.

-Flooding also affects the streets between SW 40th and SW 50th along SW Haverhill Road, located southwest of the city.
