MORA COUNTY, N.M. —

A local disaster has been declared after severe flooding on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, Aug. 27.

The Mora County Board of Commissioners declared the disaster at an emergency meeting on Wednesday.

NM 434 is closed in both directions between mileposts 5 and 8 due to severe flash flooding that occurred.

The flooding has washed out several roads within the county. Some individuals have been left stranded in affected areas, according to the Board of County Commission.

The declaration allows the county to mobilize all resources available and to request support from state and federal agencies.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
