GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- New safety measures are coming to Canyon View Park in response to growing concerns over illegal activity and misuse after hours.
Canyon View Park is one of Grand Junction’s most popular recreational spaces, with thousands of visitors on busy weekends. City officials say the park has seen a pattern of misuse during nighttime hours, particularly involving vehicles.
“Certainly, when you get in such a high volume of folks... you also have some folks that misuse it,” said Ken Sherbenou, City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation director.
Sherbenou said illegal activities at the park have included drag racing, doing donuts and even driving onto playing fields, resulting in costly damage.
