At Texas Toffee in Plano, they are cooking up to 200-pounds of candy a day to get ready for the State Fair of Texas, where the family-owned business has been a vendor for 16 years.
“Man, I would say I’m a good solid 2 weeks away from being ready,” Derik Webb said as he hovered over a hot kettle stirring toffee. “This is the old family recipe.”
While the State Fair of Texas is a big part of their annual business, getting ready for it has not been the most stressful thing at Texas Toffee.
“Well, it is remarkable that I’m here,” Derik’s wife, Koree Webb, said. “The journey of this started last year at the Fair.”
That’s when fellow vendors in the ‘Go Texan Pavilion’ noticed Koree didn’t look like herself.
