LSU coach Jay Johnson hopes that redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Gavin Guidry will be able to return to the mound this fall, Johnson said Wednesday.

Guidry has been playing catch as LSU tries to build up his workload. The two-time national champion missed all of last season with a back injury that required season-ending surgery in April.

"I'm not worried about game experience, competitiveness; it's there," Johnson said. "It's more about continually advancing the good progress that we've had."

Besides Guidry, redshirt sophomore right-hander Deven Sheerin is on track to be a "full go" once fall practices begin in October. Sheerin pitched in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer after missing the entire season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last summer.
