ATWATER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Merced County is receiving more than $200,000 in federal funding to improve the Castle Airport in Atwater.

The county received $207,802 from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The funding is distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and will support three projects at the airport. The rotating Beacon Replacement will be given $47,500. The automated weather monitoring system updates will be given $62,775 and the light installation project will be given $97,527.

“Castle Airport is one of Merced County's greatest assets, and these FAA investments strengthen its role as a hub for innovation and growth," said Supervisor Daron McDaniel, whose district includes Castle Airport.
