GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Side Soda Shop is a beloved, landmark retro diner in Goshen.
It was built in the early 1900s, and the building was originally a neighborhood grocery store.
In the 1940’s the grocery began a transition from grocery store to soda fountain.
It has been 40 years since the major restoration of the soda shop began.
Now another restoration is poised to begin thanks to a windfall grant.
The South Side Soda Shop has had a rollercoaster of a year.
Although it’s a beloved community favorite that’s been around for almost 40 years and featured twice on the Food Network, just five months ago a fire broke out in the building causing the restaurant to temporarily close.
This week the restaurant is being honored with a $50,000 grant to help preserve the historic build
