ATLANTA ( WANF /Gray News) - The director of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is out after less than a month on the job.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Susan Monarez is no longer in the leadership position as of Wednesday.

“We thank her for her dedicated service to the American people,” the department shared on social media . “@SecKennedy has full confidence in his team at @CDCgov who will continue to be vigilant in protecting Americans against infectious diseases at home and abroad.”

Monarez was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 29 and sworn in on July 31.

She was the first CDC director who required Senate confirmation and the first without a medical degree since the 1950s.
