A former U.S. naval officer, a minister and an assistant prosecutor have been appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as the newest judges to Detroit's circuit court.

Chastity Youngblood, Poncé Clay and Herman Griffin IV, who all reside in Detroit, will each serve a partial term that expires Jan. 1, 2027, filling the seats of 36th District Court judges who have either resigned or died.

“Today, I am proud to appoint Chastity, Poncé, and Herman to the bench,” Whitmer said Wednesday in a statement. “These skilled legal professionals bring years of experience to their new roles, where I am confident they will serve the people of Michigan admirably and uphold the rule of law.”
