Nineteen injured and sick children from the Gaza Strip arrived in Jordan on Wednesday to receive urgent medical treatment.

The children and their families were evacuated via the King Hussein Bridge to various government and private hospitals in the capital Amman.

The patients were accompanied by 62 family members.

“Thank God someone cared for us and got us out of there for treatment because we had lost hope of leaving," said Mohammad Misleh, the father of a 13-year-old girl with cancer and 15-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. "We saw death in all its forms.”

Since March 4 of this year, 153 sick and injured children have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the World Health Organization.

This is part of a Jordanian initiative to provide urgent medical care to 2,000 children.

Jordan's King Abdullah II, a close U.S. ally, announced the initiative during a meeting with President Donald Trump in February.

Patients return to Gaza upon the conclusion of their treatment to allow Jordan to bring in more patients.
