CHENEY, Wash. — A celebration of a new type of transportation, the first in the region, is coming to Cheney this fall.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Spokane Transit Authority's (STA) first double-decker buses will be held at Eagle Station near Eastern Washington University on Sept. 20.

The ceremony begins at noon with remarks from STA officials, followed by the ribbon-cutting, light refreshments, promotional items, and an up-close look at the new double-decker buses.

STA announced the double-decker buses in December 2024 and says the buses will begin serving Routes 6 and 66, connecting Spokane and Cheney.

STA said in December that the double-decker buses are a key component of the "STA Moving Forward" strategic plan, which voters approved funding for in 2016.
