LYON COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Artificial intelligence is coming to the Lyon County Emergency Communication Center.
Starting in the next six weeks, the center will begin a four-month trial with Hyper, a San Francisco startup that provides AI technology designed to handle non-emergency calls.
The move comes as the center continues to face a years-long staffing shortage. During the trial period, AI is expected to handle approximately 18,000 non-emergency calls by February. That would allow dispatchers to focus more on critical 911 emergencies.
