AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW) - Augusta football is entering its second season under head coach Dawson Elliott, who aims to take the Orioles to the next level.

The team finished 1-8 last season and hasn't had a winning record in eight years. To change that, Elliott has emphasized recruiting personnel.

"We took this program over with under 30 kids," explained Elliott.

In his first year, he bumped that number up to 52. It was the first year the Orioles acquired enough athletes to form a junior varsity team, which Elliott says is a crucial part of player development before they take varsity reps.
