GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — On Tuesday, Mesa County Public Health released its annual report on suicide in the county.
"It is still a priority issue in our community that we need to continue to work on…One life's too many to lose," said Jennifer Daniels, Mesa County behavioral health division director.
The data in the report shows Mesa County had a suicide death rate of 31 per 100,000 people in 2024.
"That equates to about 45, 50 people we lose each year to suicide here in Mesa County," said Daniels.
Daniels says even though Mesa County's suicide death rate remains higher than that of both the state and nation, the rate has been stabilizing over the past five years.
"When we look at it through the lens of public health or a prevention lens, that tells us that we're on the right tra
