MAINE, USA — A federal court ruling could significantly impact access to reproductive and preventative healthcare for thousands of Mainers who rely on Maine Family Planning's 18 clinics statewide.
The decision, issued Monday by a federal judge in the District of Maine, upholds a Trump-era policy that allows Medicaid funding to be cut from healthcare providers that primarily offer family planning and abortion services.
According to Olivia Pennington, advocacy director at Maine Family Planning, the consequences could be devastating for both individual and public health.
"We're talking about devastating impacts not only for individual health but for public health as a whole here in the state of Maine," Pennington said.
