CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign Police Department needs the public's help after a man was found shot to death Wednesday.

CPD said in a press release that officers were dispatched just after 6 a.m. Aug. 27 to the railroad tracks near Maple Street and Prairie Street.

Once officers arrived on the scene, they found a 45-year-old man, later identified by the Champaign County Coroner as Michael Huffman of Champaign, dead near the tracks.

According to the CPD, Huffman had been dead for several hours and was beyond lifesaving measures when he was found.

Champaign Police added that no 911 calls were received overnight related to gunfire, so the timing of the incident is currently being checked.

This investigation is ongoing, and any resident or business with outdoor surveillance camera
