ALEXANDRIA, Va. — If you've been charged with a crime, but not convicted, Fairfax County's first "Expungement Clinic" might be able to help you clear your record.

The event will be held on Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hybla Valley Community Center at 7950 Audubon Ave., Alexandria, Va. 22306.

Expungement can help people get rid of charges on their record that might otherwise result in job loss, lack of access to housing, or other opportunities.

Volunteer attorneys will be on-site to offer guidance and help prepare expungement petitions free of charge.

The filing fee you'd normally need to pay -- $86 -- will be sponsored for those who pre-register (as long as funds hold out).
