WASHINGTON — Your next Amtrak trip could feature a big upgrade. Amtrak is set to debut its new NextGen Acela trains on Aug. 28. Here's what commuters need to know.

The Acela train connects the Northeast Corridor between D.C., New York City and Boston. The NextGen Acela launch means more trains, with 28 brand-new trains entering service over the next two years. The new trains also feature 27% more seats per trip, and expanded weekday and weekend schedules.

“NextGen Acela is more than a new train — it’s an evolution of travel,” Amtrak President Roger Harris said in a press statement. “In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acela as we launch a new standard for American train travel.”
