COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - One Midlands school district could be facing potential state funding cuts due to lowering enrollment numbers.

Lexington-Richland School District Five could see a reduction in state funding after losing more than 600 students since school started back in August, according to the district’s 10-day enrollment report.

State funding is directly tied to enrollment numbers that are finalized on the 45th day of school, which is Oct. 9 for Lexington-Richland Five.

At Monday’s board meeting, district superintendent Akhil Ross requested that a budget amendment be moved up from January to October in anticipation of cuts.

Ross noted that potential cuts could lead to a reduction in staff and reassigning funds that were initially finalized after the budget was passed in July. H
