As final preparations are underway for schools to return to session, police liaison officers are also getting ready for a return in Greater Victoria.

In 2023, the Greater Victoria School Board voted to remove school liaison officers from school, citing concerns like the lack of oversight over officers, and consultation with the school community which recommended the removal.

Prior to this, Victoria Police ended its SPLO program due to not being approved for funding for additional officers. The police department then did not restore the program after the province ordered the positions be funded in 2019.
