ROCK ISLAND, Iowa (KWQC) - Illinois could find itself in another battle with President Donald Trump and the federal government.

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order to end cashless bail across the country, and White House officials say states without cash bail could lose federal funding .

Trump says the practice isn’t hard enough on crime, and it lets dangerous people back on the streets before their trial.

One of the main targets for the executive order would be Illinois, which, in 2023, became the first state to fully eliminate cash bail when the state supreme court upheld the constitutionality of the law abolishing it.

Rock Island County Sheriff Darren Hart said that the bail reform system was drastic but said it has run smoothly for his county.
