LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A group of Nebraska senators is calling on Gov. Jim Pillen to hold a public hearing about the new ICE detention facility that will take over the Work Ethic Camp in McCook .

In a social media post Wednesday, Sen. Megan Hunt shared a four-page letter outlining lawmakers’ concerns. The document described confusion among state officials after the agreement was announced between the Department of Homeland Security and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

Senators said they were not given prior notice of the agreement and are now questioning the governor’s authority to approve it. They also raised concerns about the impact on current Department of Correctional Services staff and inmates.
