HEMPFIELD TWP., Pa. - According to a news release, the twelfth sample of mosquitoes positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in 2025 has been collected in Mercer County.
The sample was collected in Hempfield Township. Additional monitoring will be done in the area where the mosquitoes were collected, and appropriate control work will be done depending on the number and type of mosquitoes.
No human cases have been reported this year.
Businesses and residents of Hempfield Township are encouraged to take extra precautions to protect against mosquito bites.
Recommendations to prevent mosquito bites include:
Applying insect repellants with DEET to exposed skin and clothing
Stay indoors at dawn, dusk and early evening when mosquitoes are most active
