FITCHBURG, Wis. (WMTV)-Big changes are coming to the Fitchburg police department, as discussed by the Common Council Tuesday.

The city approved to move forward with the construction of a new stand alone police building, which is currently shared with City Hall.

Fitchburg Police Deputy Chief Matthew Laha said that this new building will offer them the space that they need.

“It’s very exciting for the police department and the community in general. We’ve never had a stand alone police facility,” said Laha. “We are at capacity in certain places in crucial spaces like our evidence area, and we are very limited in our areas to have interviews.”
