Project Angel Food unveiled a three-story mural on Thursday in Los Angeles, celebrating the importance of caring fpr immigrants in Southern California.

Muralist Robert Vargas created the towering artwork, entitled “Nourishing the Community,” on the south façade of the nonprofit’s Vine Street headquarters.

The mural depicts a Latina goddess of maize offering food to the community, symbolizing compassion for residents of the neighborhood. Also pictured as members of Project Angel Food’s staff and volunteers who nourish Angelenos in need. Vargas said the goddess’ hands were based on those of a street vendor.

Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayoub, L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath and actor Edward James Olmos helped celebrate the unveiling.
