New memorial to honor those who fought terrorism

The Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum will dedicate a new memorial on Sept. 11, officials announced Wednesday. The memorial features three separate sections: the Global War on Terrorism in the center flanked by Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom monuments.

The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at the Memorial Shrine, 2122 O’Day Road, Fort Wayne. The memorial honors of all those who fought in both Middle East wars.

About 1.7 million American troops have served in the three wars, and the number continues to grow as the U.S. military continues operations to fight terrorism around the world, according to a news release.
