The family of a man who died of a fentanyl overdose at the Allen County Jail has sued jail officials for his alleged wrongful death.
Steven M. Perry Jr., 27, of Fort Wayne died Feb. 26, 2024. Perry had reportedly been incarcerated for a little less than a month and was facing sentencing a couple of weeks later on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.
The lawsuit was filed by Kelly M. Perry, the man’s ex-wife and mother of his two children, and the defendants are Sheriff Troy Hershberger, Jail Commander David Butler and Quality Correctional Care LLC.
Kelly Perry has asked for damages including the value of future support; loss of love, care and affection; cost of administration, including attorney fees; and funeral and burial expenses.
The lawsuit was first f
