CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Hispanic Heritage Festival of the Carolinas will go on this year after organizers had canceled it earlier this month due to concerns over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE and possible deportations.
Festival officials on Wednesday, Aug. 27, announced that the Hispanic Heritage Festival will move to a smaller venue.
Co-founder Rick Herrera said this year they will hold several events throughout the month of September instead of one big event.
“At a smaller venue, the risk of anything happening is less,” Herrera said.
In previous years, the festival was held at the end of September at Truist Field in Uptown and would host more than 10,000 people.
