CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte residents are concerned with public safety after a woman was stabbed to death on a light-rail in Charlotte’s South End last week.

As safety concerns are at the top of mind for Charlotte residents WBTV’s Dalfred Jones got firsthand experience by riding a light rail during one of the busiest parts of the day.

It was a busy afternoon on the Blue Line on Wednesday as riders hopped on and off during rush hour.

Matayis Smith was one of them. She’s new to the light rail while her car is being repaired and said CATS could benefit from a heavier police presence.

“I feel like security should be on the train more often,” Smith said. “To me, in the mornings— they’re not here frequently.”
